The Gardiner Museum

The Gardiner Museum is Canada’s national ceramics museum, and one of the world’s great specialty museums. The Gardiner strives to be an inviting destination that inspires and connects people, art and ideas through clay. In addition to a world-renowned collection of ceramic objects, the museum is also a hub of activity related to clay and ceramic art. The Gardiner offers clay classes for all ages and skill levels. The museum also regularly hosts exhibitions that go beyond the permanent collection, increasingly with contemporary and unexpected themes.

Under the direction of the Gardiner Museum’s Executive Director and CEO, Mashup (then called Ripple) partnered with the museum’s internal marketing team to work on a number of projects, including consulting, processes and strategy advice as well as creative direction and creative production work.

During this time, Mashup helped the Gardiner to refine their social media strategy, create a defined creative production process, and research and document their requirements for a new website to be launched in 2016.

Mashup also provided creative direction and production on a number of exhibitions and initiatives at the Gardiner, including the “Royal Bank of Canada Emerging Artists” exhibition, the “Doors At Six” event series, the “Kent Monkman: The Rise And Fall Of Civilization” exhibition, the re-opening of the refurbished European Gallery, and the festive “Twelve Trees” exhibition and events.

Mashup also created several videos for the museum, including the video welcoming visitors in the lobby, a video treatment for the new website, videos for the RBC Emerging Artists Awards, and an interview video with Kent Monkman.

During an interim period between full-time Marketing Directors at the Museum, Chris stepped in as a consultant and interim Marketing Director, reporting to the Executive Director and CEO and leading the marketing team. During this period, Chris led the museum’s brand refresh; led the deveopment of a refreshed content and social media strategy; defined requirements for the new website; and oversaw marketing and communications efforts for the Kent Monkman exhibit (“Kent Monkman: The Rise and Fall of Civilization”,) the re-opening of the European Gallery at the Museum, and the RBC Emerging Artists Competition.

Oh, and we also helped create a sixteen-foot light-up bison – not something we do every day!

“The Gardiner Museum has worked with Mashup (formerly Ripple) on several projects of importance and high visibility., including the welcome video that greets guests as they enter the museum’s newly renovated lobby. The team executed our vision with passion and professionalism, responding to our requests with care and working with the Gardiner’s staff in a friendly and collaborative manner. We would not hesitate to work with Mashup again.”

Rachel Weiner, Senior Manager, Marketing, Gardiner Museum.
